Our Mission

We embark on a transformative mission to reshape our community's relationship with food. It is rather evident that the limited food options in our neighborhood, often characterized by fast food and bodega snacks, were shaping not only my son's choices but also those of countless other children in our community.

Frustration stemming from constantly having to deny my son's unhealthy food choices was exhausting to say the least. But one day, it dawned on me that his desires were not just his own. He was prompted to make these request because that's all he sees. He will constantly ask for doughnuts if there are doughnut shops on every corner. His desires were rooted in the scarcity. Sometimes you can desire only what you see. And lets be honest our soundings aren't booming with healthier alternatives. This scenario serves as a microcosm of broader socioeconomic issues prevalent in urban neighborhoods, where limited choices contribute to a cycle of restricted opportunities leading to a host of poor choices.

With my child as my own personal daily reminder, I recognized the collective plight of numerous children in our community, burdened by an environment that seemingly propels them towards unhealthy choices, with food just being the base. It suddenly hit me: 'We must create better sources for our children.' We don't need anymore smoke shops, liquor stores or bodegas selling addictive snacks to grade school children...We need farms!

With this in mind, I thought of the issues of addiction plaguing my community starting with food, which can be a source of nourishment or the root of addiction. So our mission is to feed our community health rather than addiction. So as we "Open the Road" to nourishment, with a commitment to address the systemic issues affecting our community. We aspire to be architects of change, advocates for health, and champions of sustainable growth. Sawee's Nourish Farm is not just about cultivating crops; it's about cultivating a mindset, breaking the cycle addiction, and fostering a community where the seeds of nourishment sprout into opportunities for a healthier, brighter future.
